The problem

I examined how commercial-services estimating turns a property into a scope of work. The product separates what is being measured from the rates and adjustments used to price it.

My decisions

Match the method to the service

Support area, facade, count and manual scope rather than forcing every item into one measurement method.

Keep rates explicit

Use editable prices supplied by the estimator. The product does not make a rate an industry standard.

Explain the output

Carry quantities, units and pricing into an itemized estimate and PDF rather than showing an unexplained total.

Measurement method is explicit

The service definitions identify area-based washing and sealing, facade work, counted items, and manual custom scope. The catalog defines the method and unit while keeping rates out of the catalog.

An estimate carries its assumptions

The estimating workflow and PDF renderer connect quantities and pricing to an estimate document. The fictional comparison shows the arithmetic for an individual line; taxes, adjustments and other scope are excluded from this example.

The working prototype makes a service workflow tangible for review. The original and 2.0 workspaces are iterations of one product. Paid adoption, certified measurement accuracy and measured savings are unverified.
